Evanescent - Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2025-11-17
Overview
Evanescent is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your data stays on your device, period. We don't collect, transmit, or store any of your information.
Data Collection
We collect zero data.
Evanescent does not:
- Collect personal information
- Track your usage
- Send analytics
- Use third-party tracking tools
- Require user accounts
- Connect to external servers
- Store data in the cloud
Data Storage
All reminder content and app settings are stored locally on your Mac using the standard macOS data persistence layer (SwiftData). Your data never leaves your device.
What's stored locally:
- Reminder text and metadata (creation date, due date, category, etc.)
- App settings and preferences
- Custom categories
- Font and color customization choices
- Language preference
Where it's stored:
- In your Mac's local application support directory
- Protected by macOS sandboxing and file permissions
- Accessible only to the Evanescent app on your device
Question Generation
When you use the recovery feature, Evanescent generates questions from your reminder text using on-device Natural Language Processing (NLP). This happens entirely on your Mac
with zero network activity.
Recovery system privacy:
- All NLP processing happens locally
- No data sent to external services
- Questions generated fresh each time (not stored)
- No machine learning models trained on your data
Network Activity
Evanescent makes zero network requests. The app works completely offline and does not communicate with any external servers.
Popup Notifications
Optional popup reminders are generated and displayed locally by your Mac. No notification data is sent to external services or notification providers.
Your Control
You have complete control over your data:
- Export: Your data is stored in standard SwiftData format on your Mac
- Delete: Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data
- No Account: No login credentials or account recovery needed since there are no accounts
macOS Permissions
Evanescent may request the following macOS permissions:
- Notifications: To display optional popup reminders (can be disabled in macOS System Settings)
- File Access: Standard app sandbox permissions to store data in your local application support folder
These permissions are used solely for local app functionality and do not involve data transmission.
Children's Privacy
Evanescent does not collect any data from users of any age. The app is safe for all ages from a privacy perspective.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever change how privacy works in Evanescent (which would require fundamental architectural changes), we will update this policy and the app version notes. However, our commitment to local-first, privacy-respecting software is a core design principle.
